Montessori for Toddlers

What Makes a Montessori Daycare Different

Between 18 months and 3 years, children want one thing above all: to do it themselves. Our Toddler Community is set up for exactly that — low shelves, real crockery, and little jugs, brooms and watering cans that fit just right in small hands. Adults calmly show how something is done, then give the children time to try it themselves.

Everything at eye level and in child size — so children experience “I can do this” every day.

01

Practical Life

Washing hands, pouring water, setting the table, slicing fruit: everyday tasks are the most important work in the Nursery. They build coordination, concentration and the feeling of “I can do this.”

02

Growing Up Bilingual

Between 18 months and 3 years, vocabulary grows at an astonishing pace. Our teachers speak English and German with the children — in conversation, in songs, while reading aloud — so they pick up both languages naturally, without lessons.

03

Movement and the Senses

Toddlers learn with their whole body. The environment invites climbing, carrying, pouring and touching — indoors and out.

04

AMI-Certified Teachers, Small Groups

Our teachers are trained to the standard of the Association Montessori Internationale. Small groups leave time to see every child at their own pace.

Side by Side

Montessori Daycare and Conventional Nursery Compared

Kita, Krippe, daycare, nursery — in Switzerland they all mean the same thing: day care for children before Kindergarten. The difference lies not in the name, but in how the day is shaped.

At Trinity:A prepared environment where children choose their own activity and repeat it in peace
Role of the Adult
Conventional:Supervise, instruct, entertain
At Trinity:Observe, gently show, then give space — “Help me do it myself”
Materials
Conventional:Toys
At Trinity:Real objects in child size: jug, broom, cutting board, watering can
Language
Conventional:Usually monolingual
At Trinity:English and German throughout the day, from day one
What Comes Next
Conventional:A move to a different Kindergarten
At Trinity:Transition into the Montessori Kindergarten in the same building, among familiar faces

Outdoors

Garden, Mud Kitchen and the Forest Next Door

Trinity sits on Bergstrasse in Horgen, right at the edge of the forest above Lake Zurich. The children tend their own vegetable garden in raised beds, cook in the mud kitchen and spend time outdoors in all weathers. Forest and nature are not an outing here but part of everyday life — for the youngest too.

  2. Kindergarten3 – 6 years
  3. Elementary6 – 9 years

At around age three, children move into our Montessori Kindergarten (or Primary, ages 3–6) and later into Elementary (ages 6–9) — in the same building, among familiar faces, and without having to apply for a new place. For many families, that is a reason to start with us in the Nursery.

Frequently Asked Questions

Questions About Our Daycare in Horgen

From What Age Does the Daycare Accept Children?

Children join Trinity's Toddler Community from 18 months and stay until around age three. For babies from 3 months, our sister school Serendipity in Zollikon offers a Nido group.

Are There Daycare Places Available in Horgen Right Now?

Yes. Trinity is a young school, and places are currently available in both the Nursery and the Kindergarten. Children can also join during the school year, not only in August. The best next step is a tour — we can then agree together on the right start date for your child.

What Does a Daycare Place at Trinity Cost?

Instead of individual days, we offer one package: it covers all five weekdays, four of them including the afternoon. The minimum attendance is four mornings a week. We are happy to go through the fees in person during your tour.

Is the Daycare Bilingual — Does My Child Need English or German Already?

No. Our teachers speak English and German with the children throughout the day, and toddlers pick up both languages naturally. It is perfectly fine if your family speaks only one of the two at home.

Do Families Come From Thalwil, Oberrieden or Wädenswil Too?

Yes. Our families come from Horgen and the neighbouring towns on the left lakeshore — Thalwil, Oberrieden, Wädenswil, Rüschlikon, Kilchberg — as well as Wollerau and the Zug region. By car, Thalwil or Wädenswil is about ten minutes away.

What Is the Difference Between a Montessori Daycare and a Conventional Nursery?

In a Montessori daycare, children choose their activity from a prepared environment and may repeat it as often as they like. Instead of toys there are real objects in child size. Adults calmly show how something is done, and the child then gets to try it themselves. Step by step, independence grows.

What Happens After the Daycare?

A seamless transition: at around age three, children move into our Montessori Kindergarten and later into Elementary — all in the same building on Bergstrasse. There is no need to change schools.

What Are the Opening Hours?

Monday to Friday from 7:30 to 18:00. We discuss closure days and holidays during your tour.
